Pañuelos
In Argentina, we dance folk dances with handkerchiefs, a tradition some poets have affectionately called “la paloma de las manos” (the dove of the hands). This dance is a true means of communication between the dancers, allowing us to express our feelings through the choice of colors. During the dance, the handkerchief helps convey emotions to our partners—whether it’s a caress, a call, a playful hit, a catch, an embrace, a gift, a seduction, a refusal, or simply enhancing the beauty of a certain part of the body, the possibilities are endless.
Inspired by this beautiful element of my culture, I have collected over 100 silk “pañuelos” that I use in my group sessions. Each time they soar and burst into a thousand colors in the hands of dancers or meditators, my heart leaps with joy.
I also find immense happiness in preparing them before a session, just as I am now. I wash them, bless them, perfume them, honor them, and iron them with patience and gratitude for their magic and their ability to evoke so many emotions and beautiful experiences.
